This song is in a way a bookend to our feisty version of “Dzhankoye,” which appeared on The Klezmatics’ very first album, Shvaygn = toyt (Silence = Death). Both songs emanate from the Jewish experience in Crimea - “Kegn gold fun zun” being complementary both in terms of text and musical content, which in this case, and unlike “Dzhankoye,” is based on a traditional Crimean Tatar song, “Altin Yüzük.” Frank mixed things up with a couple of toe-tapping dance sections and Enver added more guitar magic.
LORIN SKLAMBERG:
This track, a blend of Jewish and Tatar musics, goes back to my musical roots in psychedelic rock and experimental folk music. Different time signatures and rhythms, screaming distorted guitar solos in ⅞… what’s not to like?
